Motorcycle, RV & Watercraft Insurance FAQ

When you take your RV to the park, your motorcycle into the mountains, or your boat onto the lake, there is a chance you could have an accident, get caught in a storm, or find your property damaged.

Some outdoor entertainment equipment doesn’t require insurance. For others, protection can be added to your homeowners or auto insurance policy. There are also stand-alone policies for certain recreational vehicles.

Your needs are specific to you. Our agents can explain what coverage options are available, and help you make a decision.

There are 3 categories of RVs broken up by size and amenities.

Class A:

  • Offers many of the comforts of home
  • Luxurious and customizable
  • Resemble a bus, usually 30-40 feet long
  • Can sleep up to 8 people

Class B:

  • Mid-sized motor homes
  • From 16 to 20 feet in length
  • Can sleep 2 to 6 people
  • Popular size for retirees and small families

Class C:

  • Often called “mini motor homes”
  • Known for versatility
  • Emphasize convenience with “slideouts”
  • Room for up to 10 people

A boat is a major investment, and one that should be protected year-round. Fire, theft, weather and natural disasters can damage your boat anytime, anywhere. Without adequate coverage, your boat remains exposed to these threats all year long. Our agents can help you determine which boat policy options best fit your needs and budget.

In most cases, other policies don’t cover off-road vehicles. This is especially true once the vehicle is driven off your property. Much like your motorcycle, your ATV or off-road vehicle needs its own insurance policy.

The amount of insurance you need will depend on the type of trailer you own and its value. For example, if you have a fairly expensive trailer, you may want full collision and comprehensive coverage in the event that it is damaged or destroyed in an accident, or the trailer is stolen.

You may also want liability coverage in the event that the trailer becomes unhitched, rolls away and causes bodily injury or property damage.
